This year we didn’t have our granddaughter to take to the nearby organised display. We weren’t going to go but we ended up stood outside in our street and watched from there. I set my small Sony RX100 to ‘firework’ mode and took a few hand held shots not knowing what to expect. I discovered the key skill required was to try to stand rigidly still and hold your breath while waiting for the shutter delay. For every successful shot there were many missed, blurry failures. When it works though you can see how successful it was by the examples shown here..
