Adobe Photography plan
Amongst the clutter of daily life and the ebb and flow of household chores, I became vaguely aware of something attempting to catch my attention. I didn’t want it to but there it was again. Through nagging emails cluttering my inbox I became aware that Adobe were pushing an offer my way and the clock was ticking on an end to it. The Creative Cloud Photography bundle, for that was what it was, was perhaps an offer I could not refuse, or could I?
I’ve been using computers since Windows 95 and the rule with all paid software was this. You bought it, it was yours to keep for as long as there was an operating system that would run it. A year or two down the line a brand new shiny upgrade came along and you either paid for it or gave it a miss. You still owned what you had paid for. But the rules have now changed. You can, if you wish, pay a monthly fee. This entitles you to use the new shiny software forever until you stop paying, you then stop using. You now rent the software and never own it. However small that monthly fee is it needs to be paid, every month stretching into infinity. I kind of prefer owning my own software thank you very much!
But it wasn’t as simple as that. I had a standalone copy of Adobe Lightroom 4 that I’ve paid for and own. I like Lightroom, steep learning curve, high processing power demands and all. I’d like the latest version. Lightroom was now on version 5, and Lightroom 6 is rumoured due at some point on the horizon. And I also had an ancient, very creaky version of Photoshop 7. Hmmmm!
I pondered long and hard over whether to go for this or not. Then I ignored it in the hope that it would go away. Then I pondered some more. Ignored, Pondered. This went on for a while. I finally went for it.

The monthly cost, at £7.49, is kind of OK. I spend almost twice that a week on bus fares alone without flinching. So am I happy with my decision, has it been worth it? Kind of yes! The Lightroom upgrade alone would account for most of my monthly payments this year. And I get Photoshop CC !

More than anything else, as someone who has a real passion for photography, I want the latest version of the best photography software that I can get my hands on to do the job.
I still kind of prefer owning my own software though!
