Lightroom Update

LightroomCC

I noticed my phone was vibrating like crazy last night. It turned out to be a multitude of notifications announcing a long awaited update to Lightroom 5. Named Lightroom 6 or Lightroom CC, this depended on whether you pay for it outright or rent it under a Creative Cloud plan.

Downloading it last night was a frustrating experience. It was understandably super zombie slow to download. Once installed it would not open however which way I tried. In the morning I had another go and again had no luck. It seemed that the Lightroom CC install had a tendency to not work. You needed your psychic abilities to realise that you needed to log out of your CC account and then logging back in again. And I was one of many who had the ‘Lightroom CC crash on launch’ problem.

Dear Adobe. Arrrrrgggg!

The difference between Lightroom 6 and Lightroom CC is that Lightroom 6 will only get bug fixes and camera updates. Lightroom CC will also include syncing with the mobile app and Web albums plus any new features that come along. I note that Lightroom CC/6 is only available for 64-bit operating systems so it’s a wave goodbye to this update for my trusty 32-bit laptop.

Major features of this release are…

  • HDR Merge
  • Panorama Merge
  • Face Recognition
  • Performance improvements
  • Advanced video slideshows
