Tulip flowering in February

About halfway through February and there’s a subtle shift in day length. It’s no longer dark when I arrive at work and it’s still light, for a short time, when I get home. And, with blessed relief, it’s finally stopped raining. The garden is beginning to dry up and a multitude of bulbs are up and flowering in profusion. It’s so joyous to see the bright yellow of daffodils swaying in the breeze. For the last few years we’ve been planting more and more bulbs and it’s well worth the minimal effort and cost.

Work continues relentlessly the same every day. Same classroom, same student, same timetable. But the end is in sight. Boris has decided all students and staff are due back on March 8th. True to form, the government messed up almost immediately. After saying everyone will have to wear a mask in the classroom it then became that mask aren’t compulsory. This kind of defeats the whole purpose of the exercise. What could possibly go wrong?

Anyway, at one point we had a gloriously warm and sunny weekend and everyone was outside. It was very unseasonal but it felt good to sit outside in the garden with a cup of tea and enjoy the warmth of the sun. And we’ve noticed a robin has started building a nest in one of our nest boxes. Spring is on its way.
