Station to station

Yatton station as an Inter city 125 passes through

The last week of term and it came during a record breaking heatwave, and I hate heat with a vengeance. I was supposed to be supervising some work experience all week in a place next to Yatton Station. A lot of planning had gone into this, train tickets bought, timetables scrutinised. What could possibly go wrong?

Ah! the public were then advised to not use trains on the Monday and Tuesday as it would be too hot. So that’s work experience cancelled on those days which to be honest was a relief. It was record busting scorchingly hot with knobs on. Catching the bus home at the end of each day was like sitting in a greenhouse on wheels. Thanks climate change!

Wednesday arrived and off I went to the work experience on the train to Yatton. When I got there Yatton station turns out to be a small, two platform place that isn’t exactly busy for much of the day. There’s not much to do or much to see. Many of the trains pass straight through at a terrifyingly fast speed. It took several experiments to get the shutter speed just right for those trains but I got there in the end.

Ultimately, three days was about my limit. Friday arrived with a great sense of relief, as another academic year was over and six weeks of holiday to come.

I hope you all have a great summer, I know I will.
