The drought ends
During the very long months of lockdown we have had almost wall to wall hot, sunny weather. That the weeks of unseasonable heat have happened at a time when we’ve all been told to ‘stay in’ seem deeply ironic.
When I’ve been working from home it’s been pretty difficult to adjust to work mode. When it’s shorts weather outside and Zoom meetings inside we all want it over ASAP. When I’m in work, on rota, it’s frustrating to sit in a windowless room staring at a computer screen for hours on end. We’ve settled into a pattern but it’s very unsatisfactory for staff and students.
And when it’s been this hot and dry for so long inevitably many plants in the garden suffer. There’s a lot of lugging of full watering cans every morning and evening. At least it keeps the slugs ever so slightly at bay.
Eventually, and at long last, the clouds opened and the parched ground got the watering it needed. No need to lug heavy watering cans all evening, hooray, slugs are back, Boo!
