Storm Francis has left its mark on the Common. After a very wet and very windy day news soon spread that a large tree had blown down not far away. Come dog walking time, we went to have a look.

It was sad to see such a magnificent tree on its side but also interesting to see the root system exposed in this way. We don’t usually get to see this kind of storm damage so it was drawing a steady stream of visitors eager to have a look.

As the tree had not long fallen I wanted to get some photographs taken straight away. I’d taken my excellent tiny Sony camera. It was difficult to take a steady shot while being pushed and buffeted by the blustery wind. It took a while to get used to the scale of the tree, massive, and where to shoot from. I mooched about, trying to avoid getting in the way of everyone else taking photographs. I got a few decent photographs that I think are OK!
