Here comes summer?

Hollyhocks in the rain - July

Phew! At long last Term 6 has come to an end, and as Alice Cooper sang, ‘School’s out’ for the summer.
Hurrah for the Summer Holidays then! It’s been a tough old year in education and it’s a miracle we’ve all managed to get to the end in relatively one piece. It goes without saying that everyone in education has worked way, way beyond their pay grade. The pandemic and the useless Gavin Williamson has pushed us all to the very limit. Anyone who says that teachers are lazy is a grade A idiot and not worthy of your time. As such I’m completely exhausted, not helped by some very unpleasant hot weather in the last week or so. I’m not a fan of hot weather, especially when it becomes too hot to sleep at night.

Ah! six glorious summer weeks ahead of me. But sure enough, as soon as I get the sun lounger out the weather has turned very unseasonable. Say goodbye to the scorching days and sweaty nights, and say hello to… rain and storms!
Is it just me that feels that summer weather is becoming more changeable every year? On the plus side it means not having to cart heavy watering cans back and forth. And, to the relief of everyone, I can stop wearing shorts. And that can only be a good thing.

Of course, being on holiday doesn’t mean I’m sitting around relaxing. Far from it. There’s a long list of jobs needing doing ahead of me. And I’ve got my cameras out again as things don’t get photographed by themselves. During the pandemic I’ve either been at work or at home and not much time or opportunity to share with my camera. So it’s time to roll my sleeves up and get a move on, weather depending of course…
